Bela Lugosi was being shot as live-action reference for the animators. On November 14, Campbell wrote that he had to work in Hollywood all day Sunday “shooting live-action scenes with Bela Lugosi for Bare Mt.” On November 20, he admitted, “I heartily agree with you that ‘Bare Mt.’ needs no live action—but it seems to be becoming a tradition that all our pictures should use it—so—.” And on November 30, he could finally declare “the Lugosi shooting is all over—all went well and the film should prove of some use to the animators. Bare Mt. progresses apace with almost one hundred feet in the hands of the animators.”133
